১৯৮২ সালের ২১শে এপ্রিল বিশ্ব ভ্রমণের নেশায় হুগলীর উত্তরপাড়ার দুই যুবক কেবলমাত্র সাইকেলকে সঙ্গী করে বিশ্ব ভ্রমণে বেরিয়ে পড়েন শত বাধাকে উপেক্ষা করে।
তৎকালীন প্রধানমন্ত্রী ইন্দিরা গান্ধী এবং অর্থমন্ত্রী প্রণব মুখার্জী তাদের যাত্রার ফ্ল্যাগ অফ করে সূচনাও করেন।এরপর দীর্ঘদিন তাদের আর কোনো খোঁজ পান না আত্মীয় পরিজনরা বা উত্তরপাড়ার মানুষেরা।
ইতিমধ্যে এর মধ্যে একজন ফেরৎ এলেও খোঁজ মেলেনা সোমনাথ বাবুর ,অবশেষে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় সার্চ করে উত্তরপাড়ারই বাসিন্দা সুব্রত দাস (লাল্টু) খুঁজে বের করেন আর এক লাল্টু ওরফে সোমনাথকে।
নানাভাবে চেষ্টা করে সোমনাথকে ফিরিয়ে আনেন উত্তরপাড়ারই ব্যানার্জীপাড়া স্ট্রীটের কিছু উৎসাহী যুবক।সোমনাথবাবু জানান তার এই ৩৭ বছরে আফ্রিকা মহাদেশের সেনেগালে থাকার কাহিনী।বর্তমানে তিনি ভারত ও আফ্রিকার মধ্যে বন্ধুত্ব ও সম্প্রীতি তথা কৃষ্টি সংস্কৃতির মেল বন্ধন ঘটাতে চান।
সোমনাথবাবু এই ৩৭ বছর পর দেশের মাটিতে পা রেখে ও পরিবারের আত্মীয়দের সাথে দেখা করতে পেরে ,মাতৃভাষায় কথা বলতে পেরে খুবই আনন্দিত পাশাপাশি উত্তরপাড়ার গর্বের সন্তানকে কাছে পেয়ে খুশীতে আত্মহারা সোমনাথ বাবুর আত্মীয় থেকে পাড়া প্রতিবেশি ও পরিজনরা।

On April 21, 1982, two young men from Uttarpara, Hooghly, West Bengal, India started their World tour by bi-cycles, spreading International fraternity and friendship, facing hundreds of obstacles.
The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee flagged off their journey and started their journey. After that, they did not find any other relatives or people in Uttarpara for a long time.
Meanwhile, Mr.Somnath, who was missing since,
finally searched on social media and found by Subrata Das (Laltu), a resident of Uttarpara.
Some enthusiastic youths of Banerjipara Street in Uttarpara, bring back to Somnath after several attempts.
Somnath told his story of being in Senegal on the continent of Africa for the last 32 years. At present, he wants to build friendship between India and Africa as well as cultural bondage.
After long 37 years, Mr.Somnath stepped foot on his motherland and met his family, relatives, and friends.
Also very happy to speak in his mother tongue (Bengali).
His relatives,friends and all of Somnath's people are very proud and happy to see him again.
