Girija Devi passed away in Kolkata

Eminent classical singer Girija Devi passed away in Kolkata on Tuesday. She was 88.
The vocalist was admitted to BM Birla Hospital in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest earlier in the afternoon. A spokesperson for the hospital confirmed that she breathed her last around 9 pm.
"She was brought in a critical condition on Tuesday afternoon. She passed away around 9 pm," a BM Birla Hospital spokesperson told IANS.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences at Girija Devi's passing away.
"Saddened by demise of Girija Devi ji. Indian classical music has lost one of its most melodious voices. My thoughts are with her admirers," PM Modi tweeted late on Tuesday night.
"Girija Devi ji's music appealed across generations. Her pioneering efforts to popularise Indian classical music will always be remembered," he said in another tweet.

Le chanteur a été admis à l'hôpital BM Birla dans un état critique après avoir subi un arrêt cardiaque plus tôt dans l'après-midi. Un porte-parole de l'hôpital a confirmé qu'elle l'avait respirée vers 21 heures.
"Elle a été amenée dans un état critique mardi après-midi et est décédée vers 21 heures", a déclaré un porte-parole de l'hôpital BM Birla à IANS.
Le Premier ministre Narendra Modi a exprimé ses condoléances à la disparition de Girija Devi.
"Attristée par la disparition de Girija Devi ji, la musique classique indienne a perdu l'une de ses voix les plus mélodieuses, mes pensées vont à ses admirateurs", a twitté mardi soir le Premier ministre Modi.
"La musique de Girija Devi ji a séduit les générations à venir et ses efforts pionniers pour populariser la musique classique indienne seront toujours présents", a-t-il déclaré dans un autre tweet.

Ghana tanker explosion

A natural gas station in Ghana's capital Accra exploded on Saturday evening, sending a giant fireball high into the sky above the city and killing at least six people.
A number of people were killed following an explosion in Accra, Ghana
About 200 police were deployed to cordon off the natural gas station
The fire has now been brought under control
The explosion about 7:30pm local time began at a state-owned GOIL liquefied natural gas station and spread to a Total petrol station across the street at the city's Atomic Junction, a witness said.
Multiple fire trucks and several ambulances responded to the blast.
A Ghana fire service spokesman said at least six people were killed and 35 were injured.

Although the Filmfare Awards started in 1954, awards for the best playback singer category started in 1959. From inception of the category through 1967, both the female and male singers used to compete for a single award, after which separate categories were created for female and male singers respectively.
