Holi Festival

Fête de Holi: Holi a de longs liens traditionnels avec plusieurs légendes. Selon une légende populaire, le mot Holi est dérivé de la démone, Holika. Elle était la sœur de Hiranyakashipu (le nom signifie l'amour de l'or et un lit moelleux), un roi démon, qui, après avoir vaincu les dieux, a proclamé sa suprématie sur tout le monde dans l'Univers. Exaspéré plus ardente dévotion de son fils au Seigneur Vishnu, Hiranyakashipu décide de le punir. Il prend l'aide de sa sœur, Holika, qui est à l'abri de tout dommage par le feu. Holika porte le petit garçon Prahlad dans le feu, mais une intervention divine elle détruit et sauve Prahlad de se brûler. Ainsi Holi est célébrée pour marquer la combustion du mal Holika. Son effigie est consommée dans le feu!
Holi est célébrée avec une importance particulière dans le Nord de l'Inde. Il solennise l'amour de Radha et Krishna. La pulvérisation de poudres colorées rappelle l'amour du sport du Seigneur Krishna et Ses dévots.
La couleur, le bruit et de divertissement qui accompagne la célébration de Holi témoigne d'un sentiment d'unité et de sens de la fraternité. Le festival apporte à la maison la leçon de l'harmonie spirituelle et sociale !!

Festival of Holi:Holi has long traditional links with several legends. According to one popular legend, the word Holi is derived from the demoness, Holika. She was the sister of Hiranyakashipu (the name meaning love of gold and a soft bed), a demon king, who having defeated the gods, proclaimed his supremacy over everyone else in the Universe. Enraged over his son’s ardent devotion to Lord Vishnu, Hiranyakashipu decides to punish him. He takes the help of his sister, Holika, who is immune to any damage from fire. Holika carries the small boy Prahlad into the fire but a divine intervention destroys her and saves Prahlad from getting burned. Thus Holi is celebrated to mark the burning of the evil Holika. Her effigy is consumed in the fire!

Holi is celebrated with special importance in the North of India. It solemnizes the love of Radha and Krishna. The spraying of colored powders recalls the love sport of Lord Krishna and His devotees.

The color, noise and entertainment that accompanies the celebration of Holi bears witness to a feeling of oneness and sense of brotherhood. The festival brings home the lesson of spiritual and social harmony!!
