New Delhi: The 182-metre statue of Vallabhbhai Patel will be dedicated to the nation today on his birth anniversary in Narmada District of Gujarat. PM Narendra Modi has already reached the venue. At the launch ceremony, the prime minister will pour soil and Narmada water into a 'kalash' to mark the dedication of the statue and then he will press a lever to commence a 'virtual abhishek' of the statue.
The world’s tallest statue was unveiled in India.
This is the world's tallest statue. India just unveiled a 597-feet-tall statue in Gujarat state,
and it's almost 4 times taller than the statue of Liberty.
Built with 1,850 metric tons of bronze,
the project took 3 and half years to complete and cost more than $410 million.
It features India's first home minister,
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,
who forcefully integrated the fledgling nation's princely states,
earning him the nickname "Iron Man of India."
The monument is called the Statue of Unity,
and is the centerpiece of a huge memorial
that includes a museum, a research center,and a hotel.

The first half of 1947 was a critical period in India’s history. The end of colonial rule was certain and so was India’s partition but what was uncertain was whether there would be more than one division. Prices were rising, food shortages were common but over and above everything else, the unity of India was under severe strain.

It was in these circumstances that the States Department came into being in June 1947. Among the chief aims of this Department was to give impetus and top priority to negotiations vis-à-vis India’s relationship with the over 550 Princely states, which were as diverse as they could get, be it in size, population, terrain or economic situation. No wonder Mahatma Gandhi remarked, “The problem of the states is so difficult that YOU alone can solve it.”

In vintage Sardar Patel style, he went about his work with precision, firmness and administrative efficiency. Time was less and the task was herculean…but this was no ordinary person, it was Sardar Patel, who was determined not to let his nation down. One by one, he and his team negotiated with the Princely states and ensured that they all became a part of free India.

It was due to the round the clock effort of Sardar Patel that the map of India is what it is today!

Once freedom was won, V.P. Menon, it is said, wanted to retire from government service, only to be told by Sardar Patel that this was neither the time to rest nor the time to retire. Such was Sardar Patel’s firm resolve.VP Menon was made the Secretary of the States Department. In his book ‘The Story of the Integration of Indian States’, he writes about how Sardar Patel led from the front and inspired the entire team to work assiduously. He also writes that Sardar Patel was clear- first and foremost came the interests of the people of India, there would be no compromise on that.

On 15th August 1947, we celebrated the dawn of a new destiny but the work of nation building was far from complete. As Independent India’s first Home Minister, he set the stage for an administrative framework that continues to serve the nation be it in matters of day to day governance and protecting the interests of the people, particularly the poor and marginalized.

Sardar Patel was a veteran administrator. His own experience in governance, particularly in the 1920s, when he served the Ahmedabad municipality, was extremely handy when he worked towards strengthening independent India’s administrative framework. While in Ahmedabad, he did commendable work in furthering cleanliness in the city. He ensured clean and functioning drainage systems across the city. He also focussed on other aspects of urban infrastructure such as roads, electricity and education.

Today, if India is known for a vibrant cooperative sector, a large part of the credit goes to Sardar Patel. The roots of Amul can be traced back to his vision for empowering local communities, particularly women. It was Sardar Patel who also popularized the idea of cooperative housing societies, thus ensuring dignity and shelter for many.

Two traits synonymous with Sardar Patel are trust and integrity. The farmers of India had unparalleled faith in him. Afterall, he was a Kisan Putra, who led from the front during the Bardoli Satyagraha. The working class saw him as a ray of hope, a leader who would speak up for them. Traders and industrialists preferred to work with Sardar Patel because they felt here was a stalwart who had a vision for India’s economic and industrial growth.

His political peers too trusted him. Acharya Kripalani remarked that whenever they faced an issue and if Bapu’s guidance was not available, they would turn to Sardar Patel. When political negotiations were at their peak in 1947, Sarojini Naidu called him “the man of decision and man of action.”

Everyone trusted him, his words and his actions. Sardar Patel continues to be respected across caste, creed, faith, age!

This year’s Sardar Jayanti is even more special. With the blessings of 130 crore Indians, the ‘Statue of Unity’ is being inaugurated today. Situated on the banks of the Narmada, the ‘Statue of Unity’ is the tallest in the world. ‘Dharti Putra’ Sardar Patel will stand tall in the skies, to guide us and inspire us.

I congratulate all those who have worked day and night to ensure that this grand statue in tribute of Sardar Patel becomes a reality. My mind goes back to 31st October 2013, when we laid the foundation stone for this ambitious project. In record time, a project of such scale has become ready and this should make every Indian proud. I urge you all to visit the ‘Statue of Unity’ in the times to come.

The ‘Statue of Unity’ is a symbol of both the unity of hearts and the geographical integrity of our motherland. It is a reminder that divided, we may not be even able to face ourselves. United, we can face the world and scale new heights of growth and glory.

Sardar Patel worked with astonishing speed to dismantle the history of imperialism and create the geography of unity with the spirit of nationalism. He saved India from Balkanization and integrated even the weakest of limbs into the national framework. Today, we, the 130 crore Indians are working shoulder to shoulder to build a New India that is strong, prosperous and inclusive. Every decision is being taken to ensure that the fruits of development reach the most vulnerable, without any corruption or favouritism, just as Sardar Patel would have wanted it.

Le Premier ministre Narendra Modi est déjà arrivé sur les lieux. et c'est presque 4 fois plus grand que la statue de la liberté.
Construit avec 1 850 tonnes de bronze,
le projet a duré trois ans et demi et a coûté plus de 410 millions de dollars.

La première moitié de 1947 a été une période critique de l’histoire de l’Inde. La fin de la domination coloniale était certaine, de même que la partition de l’Inde, mais ce qui était incertain, c’était de savoir s’il y aurait plus d’une division. Les prix augmentaient, les pénuries alimentaires étaient courantes mais, par-dessus tout, l'unité de l'Inde était mise à rude épreuve.

C'est dans ces conditions que le Département des États a été créé en juin 1947. L'un des principaux objectifs de ce département était de donner l'impulsion et la priorité absolue aux négociations concernant les relations de l'Inde avec plus de 550 États princiers, aussi divers qu’ils puissent l’obtenir, que ce soit en termes de taille, de population, de terrain ou de situation économique. Pas étonnant que le Mahatma Gandhi ait fait remarquer: «Le problème des États est si difficile que vous seul pouvez le résoudre."

À la manière de Sardar Patel, il s’acquittait de ses tâches avec précision, fermeté et efficacité administrative. Le temps était moins long et la tâche était herculéenne… mais ce n'était pas une personne ordinaire, c'était Sardar Patel, qui était déterminé à ne pas laisser sa nation tomber. Un par un, lui et son équipe ont négocié avec les États princiers et ont veillé à ce qu'ils fassent tous partie intégrante de l'Inde libre.

C’est grâce à l’effort permanent de Sardar Patel que la carte de l’Inde est ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui!

Une fois la liberté acquise, V.P. On dit que Menon voulait se retirer du gouvernement, mais Sardar Patel lui a dit que ce n'était ni le moment de se reposer ni celui de prendre sa retraite. Telle était la ferme volonté de Sardar Patel. Le vice-président Menon a été nommé secrétaire du Département des États. Dans son livre «L’histoire de l’intégration des États indiens», il décrit comment Sardar Patel a dirigé de front et incité toute l’équipe à travailler assidûment. Il a également écrit que Sardar Patel était clair: avant tout, il y avait les intérêts du peuple indien, il n'y aurait aucun compromis à ce sujet.

Le 15 août 1947, nous avons célébré l’aube d’un nouveau destin, mais l’édification de la nation était loin d’être achevée. Premier ministre de l'Intérieur de l'Inde indépendante, il a jeté les bases d'un cadre administratif qui continue de servir la nation, que ce soit en matière de gouvernance quotidienne ou de protection des intérêts de la population, en particulier des pauvres et des marginalisés.

Sardar Patel était un administrateur vétéran. Sa propre expérience en matière de gouvernance, notamment dans les années 20, alors qu’il était au service de la municipalité d’Ahmedabad, lui fut extrêmement utile lorsqu’il s’employa à renforcer le cadre administratif de l’Inde indépendante. À Ahmedabad, il a accompli un travail louable pour promouvoir la propreté dans la ville. Il a assuré des systèmes de drainage propres et fonctionnels à travers la ville. Il s'est également concentré sur d'autres aspects de l'infrastructure urbaine tels que les routes, l'électricité et l'éducation.

Aujourd'hui, si l'Inde est connue pour son secteur coopératif dynamique, une grande partie du crédit revient à Sardar Patel. Les racines d’Amul remontent à sa vision de l’autonomisation des communautés locales, en particulier des femmes. Ce sont Sardar Patel qui a également popularisé l’idée des sociétés de logement coopératives, garantissant ainsi dignité et logement à beaucoup.

Sardar Patel est synonyme de confiance et d’intégrité. Les agriculteurs indiens avaient une confiance inégalée en lui. Après tout, il s’agissait d’un Kisan Putra, qui menait depuis le front lors du Bardoli Satyagraha. La classe ouvrière le voyait comme une lueur d’espoir, un dirigeant qui s’exprimait à leur place. Les commerçants et les industriels préféraient travailler avec Sardar Patel car ils estimaient qu’il s’agissait là d’un homme fort qui avait une vision de la croissance économique et industrielle de l’Inde.

Ses pairs politiques lui ont également fait confiance. Acharya Kripalani a fait remarquer que chaque fois qu’ils rencontraient un problème et si les conseils de Bapu n’étaient pas disponibles, ils se tournaient vers Sardar Patel. À l'apogée des négociations politiques en 1947, Sarojini Naidu l'appelait «l'homme de la décision et l'homme de l'action».

Tout le monde lui faisait confiance, ses paroles et ses actions. Sardar Patel continue d’être respecté par les castes, les croyances, la foi et l’âge!

La Sardar Jayanti de cette année est encore plus spéciale. Avec les bénédictions de 130 Indiens Crore, la ‘Statue of Unity’ est inaugurée aujourd’hui. Située sur les rives de la Narmada, la ‘Statue of Unity’ est la plus haute du monde. ‘Dharti Putra’ Sardar Patel se tiendra droit dans les cieux pour nous guider et nous inspirer.

Je félicite tous ceux qui ont travaillé jour et nuit pour que cette grande statue en hommage à Sardar Patel devienne une réalité. Mon esprit remonte au 31 octobre 2013, lorsque nous avons posé la première pierre de cet ambitieux projet. En un temps record, un projet d'une telle envergure est prêt et cela devrait rendre chaque Indien fier. Je vous exhorte tous à visiter la ‘Statue of Unity’ dans les temps à venir.

La «statue de l’unité» est un symbole à la fois de l’unité des cœurs et de l’intégrité géographique de notre mère patrie. C'est un rappel que divisé, nous ne pouvons même pas être en mesure de faire face à nous-mêmes. Unis, nous pouvons faire face au monde et atteindre de nouveaux sommets de croissance et de gloire.

Sardar Patel a travaillé avec une rapidité étonnante pour démanteler l'histoire de l'impérialisme et créer la géographie de l'unité avec l'esprit du nationalisme. Il a sauvé l'Inde de la balkanisation et intégré les membres les plus faibles dans le cadre national. Aujourd'hui, nous, les 130 Indiens crores, travaillons main dans la main pour bâtir une nouvelle Inde forte, prospère et inclusive. Toutes les décisions sont prises pour que les fruits du développement atteignent les plus vulnérables, sans corruption ni favoritisme, exactement comme Sardar Patel l’aurait voulu.
